History

Suisun Masonic Lodge No. 55 is one of the oldest Masonic lodges in Northern California and the first Masonic lodge established in Solano County. It operates under the jurisdiction of the Grand Lodge of California, having been officially chartered on May 4, 1855, during California’s Gold Rush era.

The lodge traces its beginnings to May 1854, when early settlers of the Suisun Valley received a dispensation to form a lodge as Freemasonry rapidly spread with westward expansion. Its members were among the region’s earliest pioneers—ranchers, merchants, and civic leaders—who helped shape the social and economic foundations of Solano County.

In 1855, prominent rancher and Mason Hiram Rush constructed a three-story brick building at 623 Main Street in Suisun City, purpose-built to house the lodge. The structure featured Gothic Revival elements, stained-glass windows with Masonic symbolism, cast-iron columns, and fire-resistant materials.

During the 1960s, Suisun Lodge No. 55 relocated to Fairfield, California, to better serve its membership. The original Suisun City building was preserved and continues to be used by Stanley Y. Beverley Lodge No. 108 (Prince Hall Affiliated), ensuring its continued Masonic legacy.
