Our Combined Universal Masonic Symbols

The brethren of Suisun Lodge #55 meet every second Tuesday of each month, 7:30 PM (1930H) at 412 Travis Blvd., Fairfield, California

The truth about Freemasonry and its relationship with our universal emblems.

Unlike many, Freemasons is a fraternity of brothers just wanting to help one another and better themselves.

The "G" stands for "God."  The Book of The Sacred Law or the Holy Bible is the rule and guide of our Faith.  The compass and square are the architect's tools and symbolize God as the creator of the universe, among other things.  Another representation is the symbol of crossed compass and set square.

As measuring instruments, the tools represent judgment and discernment.

The compass, used to draw circles, represents the realm of spiritual eternity.  It is symbolic of the defining and limiting principle and also of infinite boundaries.

The angle measures the square, the symbol of the earth, and the realm of the material.  The square represents fairness, balance, firmness, etc., reflected in phrases such as "on the square" and "squared away."  Something that is squared is stable, a foundation for upon building.

The compass and square represent the convergence of matter and spirit and the intersection of earthly and spiritual responsibilities.  The two symbols form a hexagram, the union of earth with the heavens, matter, mind, etc.
